
How Will Brexit Affect Universities and Students in 2020-2021?
Brexit, defined as the United Kingdom’s departure from the European Union, has been one of the most important political actions. It has been classified as a fact that will change many things for citizens, but Will this impact UK student life? Let’s see.
Almost four years since the UK voted 52% – 48 % leave the EU, Brexit officially happened on Friday, 31st January 2020. The United Kingdom is no longer a member of the European Union. However, throughout 2020 the two parties will be negotiating a new trade agreement to determine how the policies that governed the country, respect for the laws will now be carried out, the payment of taxes, among other things.
The United Kingdom has abandoned the structure of the European Union single market, an agreement that, among other things, has for years allowed the movement of visa-free people throughout the European Union and has allowed citizens of the European Union to study in the United Kingdom for the same rates and with the same financial support available to national students.
So will this affect students from the European Union coming to the UK to study?
The immediate answer is no. Everything will remain the same until the end of 2020. From then on, a new immigration scheme will oversee student mobility. The UK government will introduce it sometime this year. It is not yet clear when.
